Cracow - Krakow, Poland : Pics from July 2004. Krakow is Poland’s capital of culture. The city boasts the best museums in the country and some best theaters. It counts two Nobel Prize winners in literature among its residents. It is also home to one of the world’s oldest and most distinguished universities. No wonder Krakow was named a European City of Culture in 2000.

In 965 a travelling merchant from Spanish Cordoba wrote about Krakow as the bustling trade center of Slavonic Europe, and recent excavations confirm. Its northern neighbors of the Piasts’ dynasty incorporated the Krakow province into their principality in the 990s and thus the Kingdom of Poland was born. In the year 1000 Krakow got its own bishop, and in 1038 the city became Poland’s capital.

Place is beautiful – wide mountains and a lake framing a cozy European-style village.
Slopes, hills and bars – comprise the pedestrian Village and friendly locals staff, giving the place a "I want to come back here again" atmosphere similar to that of the Greek Islands.

Montreal - Quebec : Located between the river and the city centre, Old Montréal and the Old Port will take you on a historic tour of a great North American metropolis. So much of Montréal's unique past is still visible today—from the place where the city was founded in 1642, to physical evidence of all periods, such as the French colony’s winding paths, remarkable 18th- and 19th-century architecture and the first Canadian skyscrapers. Architectural lighting has made the Old Port and Old Montréal more romantic and charming than ever, highlighting their rich past and the museums, boutiques, sidewalk cafés and public places that are alive with activities all year long.
Quebec City lies on the Saint Lawrence River roughly three hours east of Montreal. The city is divided by steep bluffs into Upper Town, including the old quarter, and Lower Town. Algonquin, Ontario : I reflect for a moment on the subtle beauty of Algonquin; this maze of pristine blue lakes separated by rolling green hills lies just three hours' drive from the industrialized southern Ontario, yet feels part of another world. The park is immense, covering an area of over 7725 square kilometers of forests, lakes, and rivers have assumed an almost incalculable importance as a living link with a vanishing past. Algonquin offers 1500 kilometres of canoe routes and remote campsites, isolated lakes full of hungry trout, and remote wilderness. Near the center, 30 km from the nearest road and over 50 km from the closest town, it is possible to travel for days on end and see no evidence of civilization.

Tobermory, Ontario : The town is known as the fresh water SCUBA diving capital of the world, because of the numerous shipwrecks that lie in the surrounding waters, especially in Fathom Five National Marine Park. Big Tub Harbour, the deepest natural harbour on the Great Lakes, now protects two nineteenth century shipwrecks which visitors from all over the world see -- either through a diver's mask, through a glass underwater viewing portal or over the side of a cruise boat. Flowerpot Island on the pictures is named for the geological formations that look like flowerpots (small base flaring out to flat, wide top). The trail passes two flowerpots and also visits a small cave and a lighthouse where there is a great view.
